Born in America in 1977, I have been based in Tokyo since 1999.

This project began in 2010, during a low point marked by depression and self-destructive behavior, when I began to discover a different way of seeing the world.

I found points of connection in Zen spirituality, Japanese aesthetics and mono no aware, the awareness of the transient beauty of our ever-changing world, as well as in Daoist, Stoic and Neoplatonic thought. Each, in its own way, seems to point toward a fuller engagement with the beauty already present in everyday life.

Under the name Kojun, I have worked as a self-taught multimedia artist since 2019. The name is written with Japanese characters that, for me, evoke the illumination and replenishment of the heart: our kokoro.

Taking a variety of forms, my work explores moments of beauty glimpsed in everyday life as openings toward a deeper way of seeing.
